Falan….what?!?!? Don’t worry if you haven’t yet heard of Falanghina, it’s very new to Australia. It hails from the same region as Fiano, in Campania around Naples, and we are very excited to now have it planted in the Taranga vineyard.

This Falanghina (pron Fah-Lahn-Gee-Nah) is made with minimal intervention in a concrete egg. Tangy and textural, this wine will make you feel like you’re on the Amalfi coast.

History

History

With 100 ha of premium grapevines on the Taranga property, the Oliver family has over 50 blocks representing different grape varieties, clones, soil types & vine ages. Each vintage, different varieties & blocks will show their strength and from this has been born the ‘SMALL BATCH’ range. Made in small batches of less than two tonnes, these wines have been handcrafted to speak of both the variety and the vintage in which they have been produced.

The Year That Continued

The Year That Continued

Andrea cooked delicious Spaghetti Carbonara for the whole team. While the Oliver family have a number of wannabe Italian members (I’m looking at you, Corrina), we do have a real life one in the Taranga team. Andrea is one of our amazing warehouse team members - if you have received a wine delivery from Oliver's Taranga, chances are that Andrea has packed it for you. Andrea hails from Modena, but has settled in McLaren Vale with his family. When he offered to cook his famous Spaghetti Carbonara for one of our team dinners, we were so excited it was all we talked about for weeks. It is a tough one to cook for 20 people, but he smashed it out of the park and we all still dream about it.

Reviews

“The second release, whole-bunch pressed to Sonoma Stone (concrete) eggs for native ferment, with natural mlf, no sulphur until bottling and five months on lees. A warmer year, yet, for me, a more harmonious and complete wine than the debut, if on the richer side. Yellow fruits, fresh chamomile, aromatic in a calm way, expressive but not overt, golden apple sorbet, if such a thing exists, pristinely ripe Williams pear, sea spray, green almond, fruit poaching spices, somewhat the flavour but more the textural slip of rambutan, before finely pithy, stony, sandy detail and composed acidity close the show.” 93pts
