With 300 acres of premium grapevines on the Taranga property, the Oliver family has over 50 blocks representing different grape varieties, clones, soil types & vine ages. Each vintage, different varieties & blocks will show their strength and from this has been born the ‘SMALL BATCH’ range. These wines have been handcrafted to speak of both the variety and the vintage in which they have been produced.
Reviews
Deep ruby hue. Rich nose of dark chocolate, blood plum and anise with a hint of dusty earth. Powerful and weighty, blackberry and blood plum, cola and nutmeg spice all flow with a rich and velvet texture long across the palate. Tannins are there in the periphery, carrying the edges to ensure focus and length. 93 pts

Visions of red fruits, blueberries and purple plums arrive with this lifted aromatic scent. It is quite a sensory experience tethered to a lively spiciness. Ripe fruit is the key here, something celebrated, alongside a cast of dark spices, earth and light savoury notes. The Spanish grape generally possesses some strong natural tannins and here they carry the wine well, finishing cherry pip dry. 92 points

Off vines planted in '07, open fermented, then aged in three-year-old 100% French puncheons; bottled in November of the harvest year. Medium in weight, this rolls out the classic tempranillo cast of dark fruits, raspberries and cola, along with anise-tinged spices, violets and some coffee grounds. There’s good trim to the tannin, with acidity – in this notoriously deficient variety – curated for freshness, but not overly so. For me, this drinks best a little cooler. 92 pts

Plenty of vibrant fruit here! Tumbled strawberries, plum skin, spiced berries, boot polish, liquorice, choc dust, olive brine, saltbush. A dried hibiscus floral lift too. The palate is dense with rumbling, grippy tannins, dusty sunburnt Aussie earth, savoury spice and a toasty oak. Plenty of dried herbs on the finish and a little charcoal. There’s a moreish succulence thanks to the juicy acidity and fruit character, two elements that some lesser Tempranillo iterations lack and which are essential as a foil to the tea-leaf tannins. A wine fueled by dusty tapenade and Iberian fire in the belly. A dream of a BBQ wine but be certain to include some chorizo and spice-fuelled charcuterie. 92pts

Blackberries, prune plums and fig skin. Mocha, pomegranate and vanilla bean. Fruit sweetness on the palate is divine indeed, its slinky and tannins are powdery smooth. Acidity hums along. Some blueberries make an appearance and tonka bean and clove on the finish. An easy wine to love. Drink with pulled pork and a sweet and sour smokey barbeque sauce. Drink now. 91pts
