Wine & Vintage
The 2024 harvest started with a wet & cool spring, leading into a dry and consistently warm growing season. In these conditions Grenache comes to the fore, revelling in the drier ripening conditions. Another excellent year for Grenache from McLaren Vale, which seems to be in a purple patch at the moment - darling of the consumer, winemaker and viticulturists!
The Year That Continued
We crushed our first vintage at Oliver & Press Winemakers. The final piece of the Oliver's Taranga puzzle was put into place in 2024. 180+ years of grapegrowing, 18 years of our cellar door being open, 30 years of winemaking, but we had never owned our own winery. After many years of Corrina contract processing our wines at a local winery, an opportunity came up to buy the site. After putting on our big girl pants, we made the leap to purchase it in collaboration with Bob & Yuko Harris, the owners of Mike Press Wines. Oliver & Press Winemakers was born. The site is much larger than Oliver's Taranga needs, hence we offer contract processor for many incredible local and interstate wine brands and have a brilliant cellar team looking after them all.

Early summer berries. Plump raspberries, wild strawberries and nettle leaf. There is some terra cotta clay and a autumnal leaf savoury note that halts this wine from being in the red confectionery realms but the fruit is ridiculously spirited and vivid. Mouth watering and a pulpy sensation to the drinkability. Another wine from Olivas Taranga that should be included in your yearly allocation. Heck buy more than case, before you know it you'll be wondering where it all went. Accessible wine like this makes me a brand addict for life. If they can do this in this price range what more can they do! Serve with fatty pork and truffle salami. Drink no or will cellar for another 5 years. 93 pts

This is one of those wines where the simple twist of the screwcap and a pour into the glass releases one heavenly, lasting fragrance that simply never lets go. It’s a scent and character that penetrates the entire wine in plum, cherries, juniper, orange peel and a world of spice and vanilla. It’s lifted and fresh and full of vigour and verve assisted by fine, lithe tannins that keep the energy flowing. It’s a wine that many will find hard to resist. 93pts

Full and bright ruby hue. Ripe forest berries and bresaola aromas. Sweet berry fruit fills in on entry, then anise and curing meat notes add character to the medium to full palate. Acidity is supple, giving a lift as needed, then hands off to fine silky tannins that carry to the end. A slippery wine that has instant appeal. 92pts

A Grenache that falls into the light to mid weight category. If you are one that enjoys your Grenache with plenty of dried floral fragrance (think violets, damask rose and rose geranium), and oodles of crushed granite minerality, then this is for you. There’s also a light smattering of pencil-shaving oak, some delicate spice and red cherried, lilly pilly fruit. The palate delivers everything one hopes from the nose. Bright fruit with sour cherry and purple fruited crunch, zippy lifted acid, fine light-weight tannins, a scattering of dried florals, black pepper and clove spice and a mineral-laden finish. Though this isn’t the longest wine, there is much to love and this is a bargain at $32. There’s no excuse not to crack a bottle…or two. 92pts
